Vt. Maple Syrup Products

So how is everyone’s week going? Seems like they are getting longer and longer until the weekend, haha! Well I thought I’d make today’s post on the different types of products that are made from pure Vt. maple syrup. Yes there are a lot more uses than just as a syrup.
If you heat the maple syrup just right you can make all kinds of different things with it. From maple sugar, cream, candy, fudge and lots more, Vt. maple syrup can be used for lots of tasty products. Below is a short list of maple products that you can find.
Maple sugar candy
Using Vt. maple syrup to make maple candy is very common. It’s made by heating maple syrup to 22 F degrees above the boiling point of water. Then you cool it to between 200 F to 160 F and stir it as it starts to form a jell. Pour the jell into rubber molds made just for maple candy and let it cool. Once cold the flexible molds let the brown colored candy pop out. You can find lots of molds that make detailed designs in the candy for a tasty and visual treat.
Maple Cream
This delicious spread is made by heating the maple syrup to 22 F degrees above the boiling point of water. Then you cool it very fast to room temperature while stirring. The result is a thick maple cream, sort of like butter. You can use it to spread on toast, muffins, cakes, anything to add that great maple taste.
Maple sugar
You can produce maple sugar by heating the maple syrup to 45 F degrees above the boiling point of water. You then let it cool down to about 200 F and keep stirring until it starts to become granulated and dry. Then you sift it through a filter to make a nice fine sugar. You can use it for anything you normally use plain sugar for, it will just have a slight maple flavor.
Maple Fudge
To make fudge with maple syrup, you use fancy grade syrup. Boil it to 23 F above the boiling point of water without stirring. Then you cool it to 160 F all the while not stirring it. Pour it into a greased pan or mold and let cool.
The above maple products are the most common ways of using maple syrup, besides as a syrup of course. But by no means is that the only products made with maple syrup. They have hard maple candy, maple cotton candy, maple ice cream, maple salad dressing, maple coated nuts, maple jelly, all kinds of sweet and delicious products made with maple syrup.
There are also many ways of using maple syrup in cooking too. When I get the chance I’ll try to make a page in here listing lots of recipes that you can use maple syrup in. Whatever you make, be sure to use the best, which of course is pure Vt. maple syrup!
