Vt. maple syrup grades

So what’s everybody doing this fine Sunday! The weather is getting warmer, I sure look forward to summer after this long winter. Well, today I thought I would explain about the different types of Vt. maple syrup grades. You see, maple syrup does not come in just one taste or color.
If its fake maple syrup made in a factory then they can pump out the same stuff batch after batch. But because real Vt. maple syrup is pure organic with nothing added, different batches can look and taste different. So, we made different labels for them.
When the sap first starts to run, it tends to be clearer and lighter, so the maple syrup is also clearer and lighter. As the season starts to end the sap gets a bit darker and heavier. Also sap can vary from tree to tree. So just what is the best grade of Vt. maple syrup?
Well that all depends on your own taste! No grade is “better” or “worst”, it’s just different. Here is the break down of the four different grades of maple syrup.
Vermont Fancy
This is a light amber color and the lightest grade. It has a delicate, mild maple flavor that is not overpowering. Great for added taste for ice cream, toast or other mild foods so you can appreciate the flavor.
Grade A Medium Amber
This grade has a medium amber color. It has a bit more stronger maple flavor and a bit heavier. This maple grade is great for all around use in just about anything.
Grade A Dark Amber
As the name implies, this maple syrup grade has a darker amber color to it, with a more bolder maple taste. This grade is popular for all around use and pouring over those flapjacks and waffles!
Grade B
This is the darkest syrup grade. It has the most pronounced maple flavor that some people prefer if they really love that maple taste. It also is the most favored for cooking with maple syrup.
Well there you have it, the four different grades of pure Vermont maple syrup. Like I said, all are great tasting and can be used for whatever you want to use maple syrup for. The next time your in a sugar house ask for a sample of each and decide for yourself what grade you like best. One things for sure, you just can’t beat the taste of pure Vt. maple syrup!
