Biking tours in Vermont

Hello everyone, today I thought I’d write about biking in Vermont. I can’t talk about that great pure Vermont maple syrup all the time! Vermont is a fantastic state for biking. The many rural roads, sparse traffic, cooler weather and spectacular scenery makes for an unbeatable combination.

Now there are two types of biking in Vermont. One is mountain biking, where you go up trails through the woods, over rocks and through the streams. This is more popular with the younger crowd that really wants to test their abilities.

The more common and very popular type of Vt. biking is guided or self guided tours along the many winding Vt. roads. There are a lot of small biking outfitters here that takes groups of bikers along planned biking tours, stopping at different country Inns along the way.

You can even choose different levels of experience, from half or one day biking tours, to week long tours that take you all over the state. Even the different areas in the state make for a different bike tour.

For example some Vermont biking tours follow along the shores of Lake Champlain, which forms the west boarder of the state and is the 6th largest lake in the US. Here the going is more flatter and easy, with great views of the lake and boats.

Then we have the biking tours that go around the smaller, quaint little towns that are close together. You get a little more hills and dips, but not too tiring and the stops are frequent. Then we have the biking tours for the more experienced!

These tours take you up and over the highest mountains in Vermont. The mountain road in Stowe is a very popular biking destination. You wind your way through curving roads, past lots of beautiful streams and bridges.

Going up gets hard, but once at the top you have a long easy cruise down into the pretty town of Stowe, a popular tourist resort town. If it’s a tour that last several days they plan beautiful country Inns or bed and breakfast places to stop over.

At these places your served with great Vermont food, including that great tasting pure Vermont maple syrup poured over your morning pancakes or waffles. There are also many small roadside stands that sell maple syrup, maple candy and lots of other pure Vermont products.

Fall is the prime time for bike tours in Vermont. When the leaves turn gold, red and orange the scenery is unbeatable. The weather is cooler but not cold, perfect for biking. The bike tour companies supply everything for you, the bike, equipment, Inns you stop over in for the night, everything.

All you need to do is dress right for the weather, which can get warm during the day but cool at night. Layers are always the best way to dress in Vermont. So where do you find Vermont biking tour companies!

Well there are dozens of small ones, including some that just rent the bikes to you so you can choose your own route. But below I’ve listed some of the more established ones that have been around for a while. Any of these will take good care of you.
