About the state of Vermont facts

It’s occurred to me that I have not really said too much about Vermont. So for those of you who don’t know much about it, I’ll give you some facts. Vermont is 9,609 square miles small. Yes it’s a small state, but most of New England states are small.

The highest mountain is Mount Mansfield, at 4,395 ft. high. It’s in Stowe, which is a famous ski resort town. Skiing is big business in Vermont, with several large ski resorts around the state. The Van Trapp lodge is in Stowe, which is run by the family that movie “the sound of music” was based on.

Vermont boarders Massachusetts on the south, New Hampshire on the east, Canada on the north and New York on the west. Lake Champlain makes much of the boarder between New York and Vermont and is the 6th largest fresh water lake in the US.

Most of the state is rural, covered in forest and pasture land. The land is very hilly, there is not much flat land. The mountains are not steep, more like rolling hills that never end! A large network of dirt roads runs throughout the counties, making Vermont very dependent on dirt roads, which turn to mud in the spring!

Dairy farming is the primary farming industry in Vermont. Seems like anywhere you go you see cows, mostly the big white and black ones. In fact there are more cows than humans in Vermont! Vermont also produces many other quality foods, all pure and natural.

Vermont produces apples, honey, christmas trees, lumber, green house plants and flowers. Vermont is also home to the Cabot cheese factory, producing fine quality cheese of all kinds. Ben and Jerrys ice cream also calls Vermont home.

There also are many specialty shops producing quality products like The Vermont chocolate factory, the Vermont teddy bear company, micro breweries and many other specialty shops that make different kinds of cheeses, desserts, fruits and much more.

Then of course, there is pure Vermont maple syrup. Vermont is the biggest producer of maple syrup in the US. Vermont’s location, hills and many large maple trees make it just right for producing the best tasting maple syrup around, if not in the world.

There are many small country stores and shops throughout Vermont that sell all of this great produce from Vermont. Fresh mackintosh apples and apple pies, black berries, strawberries, specialty cheeses and pure Vermont maple syrup in many forms.

Vermont is popular with tourist for it’s skiing, hiking, biking, boating, hunting, fishing and much more. Fall in Vermont is spectacular as the leaves turn golden. There are many fall foliage bus tours in Vermont. Of course we also have many quaint country bed & breakfast Inns that are popular.

So as you can see Vermont is an outdoors paradise, if a bit cold. You can find a sugar house selling pure Vermont maple syrup almost anywhere along most roads. So if you want to get away from it all, do some hiking or biking, or just relaxing in the sun, Vermont is a good place for it.

Of course while your here be sure to order lots of pancakes and waffles at breakfast so you can enjoy pure Vt. maple syrup poured over it. Take some back with you too, and enjoy the flavor of Vermont at home until the next time you can get up here in Vermont!
