Vermont farmer markets & roadside stands

Vermont farmer market and roadside stands

How’s everyone doing today? I thought that I would talk just a bit about Vermont’s many farmers markets and roadside stands, or vegetable stands. With so many farms producing so many different kinds of products, you can find many farmers roadside stands all over the state. Most are on rural or secondary roads, so it’s easy for people to pull off on the side of the road or in the driveway of the farm.

Now there is a difference between a farmer market and a farmers roadside vegetable stand. A roadside stand can be just a table put out in a farmers front yard with produce, or as elaborate as a small open building on the farmers property that people can stop in and browse around. Vermont’s rural roads have a lot of turnoffs, little places you can get off the road to take a break. So some people drive to those and set up a little tarp or something and sell produce out of the back of their van or pickup. Downhill skiing at stowe Vermont

Hi everyone, sorry I have not posted in a while, I’ve been really busy! Well today I’ll talk about skiing in Vermont. Downhill skiing and cross country skiing are very popular in Vermont. Tourist come from all over the world for snow skiing here. Vermont ski vacations are one of the busiest times here. Stowe and Killington are two of the most popular ski resorts towns.

Jay peak and Smuggler’s Notch are two other very popular Vermont ski resorts. The ski resort of Stowe has trails up the side of Mt. Mansfield, which is the state’s highest mountain. I’ll talk about all them in more detail in a bit. Vermont gets a lot of snow in the winter, sometimes a bit too much for those who have to shovel it!

But that makes for some great skiing conditions. Vermont has ski areas all over the state, from the very northern part to the southern area. Skiing conditions are almost always just right, with lots of sunny days and gentle snow storms. The views from the tops of the mountains are spectacular. (more…)

But there are a lot of other, smaller cheese farms around Vermont. Goat cheese is a very popular type of cheese, with a variety of flavors and textures. Of course cheese from Vermont dairy cows are the most common. There are many small goat and cow farms that make great specialty cheeses in Vermont. Cheese from sheep is also popular, and we even have water buffalo cheese!

Vermont cheese comes in many styles. Rolls of cheese, cakes, slices, chunks and more. There is cheddar cheese, sharp and mild cheese, monterey jack, colby jack, shredded cheese, mozzarella cheese, swiss cheese and American cheese. But these are just the normal types most people know about. There are many more made by small farmers making great tasting specialty cheeses. (more…)
